When planning, this bride and groom were aiming for a Modern, Romantic, and Classic style for their wedding and needless to say, they totally nailed this look. Pete and Mackenzie are the absolute definitions of modern, minimal, and chic when it comes to their wedding style. They gave some serious Mad Men vibes but with their very own modern twist. They made the downtown Kansas City streets effortlessly chic in all the right ways and allowed for me as a photographer to express more of a photojournalistic style. If you're looking for modern and minimal wedding inspiration, this wedding is right up your alley!
Pete and Mackenzie celebrated their love at The Gallery Event Space, downtown in the Power and Light District of Kansas City. The tones of emerald and hues of grey couldn't have complimented this day better. As we were beginning to settle into another midwestern fall, the leaves were just starting to change over, the grasses were starting to die off, and a slight chill was in the air. All the perfect ingredients for a magical and stunning October wedding day. The couple embraced their modern and romantic style across their decor with white florals and organic greenery, lit candles, and pops of gold.
As a photographer, my most memorable moments from their wedding day were their first looks and our sunset portrait time. Mackenzies first look with her dad was an emotional roller coaster! Tears flowing, smiles everywhere, hugs all around, truly not a dry eye in the Hilton President Hotel. Directly after, Pete and Mackenzie shared a private first look and emotional vow reading. The couple was able to express their promises to one another in the most intimate way while they recited formal vows in their ceremony. For sunset portraits, we walked the streets of downtown Kansas City, amidst cars, festivals, bystanders, and more. There is something so raw and organic about these images that draw me in like no other. The couple is completely unphased by the hum of the street and the bustle of the city, in contrast, they simply cannot take their eyes off one another.
If there's anything you'd really like to take away from this wedding day as a wedding planning tool, it's that this wedding day only had 1 photographer and 1 videographer. The couple was minimal not only in style but also in vendor choices. All this to say, sometimes less is truly more. Your wedding day doesn't necessarily need an entire tribe or team of people to come together. You don't have to have all the extra bells and whistles. Your day can be documented fully without a second shooter, without endless hours of coverage, or without all the frills. Your day can be as minimal and organic as you want it to be.
