This engagement session is the perfect mix of downtown city chic vibes and natural, and organic outdoor romance. Jeremy and Lauren wanted the best of both worlds when planning their Kansas City engagement session with me. Along with sending her Pinterest Inspiration Board, Lauren's exact words were "I am wanting sort of a chic/modern/editorial vibe downtown and a more romantic feel outdoors if that makes sense!" To which I replied I have the PERFECT locations for you!
We started our session walking the streets of Downtown Kansas City near the Financial District. Stumbling across whatever architecture spoke to us in the moment. Jeremy and Lauren laughed against ivy walls, danced on sidewalks, embraced in grand doorways, kissed on the city streets popped champagne in the middle of a 4-way intersection. To sum things up, Jeremy and Lauren completely rocked the downtown portion of their session and one thousand percent achieved the "chic/modern/editorial vibe" Lauren was going for.
Our second stop needed to set the environment for more romance and organic moments between the couple. I choose Parkville, MO for its somewhat close proximity to downtown, its abundant green space, its quiet flowing river, ample riverbanks, and its seclusion. Of course, it wasn't completely void of all people, but we were able to steal a beautiful piece of a grassy bluff overlooking the Missouri River. The golden sun set behind the trees as Jeremy and Lauren leaned into the romance right in front of my lens.
One last playful and casual outfit change to round out their engagement session with me. Jeans and T-Shirts allowed the couple to lift, chase, piggyback ride, snuggle, and more on the banks of the river. The soft blue light hour hit just right complimenting their outfits and their spirits as we ended our time together.
What I think we can learn from Jeremy and Lauren is to set the expectation with myself or whoever your photographer is. Communicate your vision via visual representations like a Pinterest board or descriptive and specific words in your emails or texts. After you've effectively communicated your vision, trust your photographer to create the environment you're seeking. It will more than likely exceed your expectations and make your engagement photo dreams come true!
